Decoding spontaneous neural activity in the brain during sleep to reveal the mechanism and function of dream sleep

Introduction

Danqian Liu graduated from University of Science and Technology of China. In 2016, she received her Ph.D. from the Institute of Neuroscience, Chinese Academy of Sciences. From 2016 to 2020, she worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of California, Berkeley, studying the neural circuit mechanism of sleep. In May 2020, she joined the Excellence Innovation Center for Brain Science and Intelligent Technology of Chinese Academy of Sciences as a researcher and doctoral supervisor. As the first/corresponding author, she has published several high-level research papers in Science, Nature Neuroscience, Annual Review of Neuroscience, etc.

The main interest of the lab is the function of sleep and dreams. It aims to understand why the brain needs sleep at the level of brain metabolic homeostasis and neural circuits, and to reveal the mechanism and function of dream sleep by decoding the spontaneous neural activities of the brain during sleep.
