Lipid metabolism and ferroptosis
Introduction
Dr. Yilong Zou received his Bachelor’s degree from the Department of Biological Sciences and Biotechnology in Tsinghua University, and obtained his PhD degree in Cancer Biology from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in 2016. During 2016-2020, Dr. Zou performed his postdoc training at the Broad Institute and Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology in Harvard University, investigating cellular mechanisms regulating ferroptosis in cancer. Yilong launched his independent research lab, The Laboratory of Functional Lipidomics and Metabolic Regulation, at Westlake University in 2020 November to tackle the interplay between metabolism and human diseases.
Dr. Zou’s laboratory focuses on characterizing the metabolic basis underlying cancer progression and metastasis, with a special interest in targeting lipid metabolism and ferroptosis in cancer. Recently, Yilong’s lab has dissected how polyunsaturated lipids contribute to specific stages of cancer metastasis, from extravasation to colonization. Moreover, Yilong is interested in integrating various chemical biology approaches to develop therapies for cancer treatment.
